My brother David,
I didn't know you before the "Butcher of Manipur" dismembered your limbs one by one while you were still alive. I am told that in the final act of bestial brutality, you were beheaded and your head was carried around as trophy & then posted on a bamboo fence. Your ordeal didn't end there, you were mocked even in death with words like "How beautiful is the head of this Kuki, look, look at him!". What I haven't heard is your painful scream, could be it possible that you bore the excruciating pain in stoic silence to deny the beast the pleasure? I wish you screamed but we #Kuki_Zo are strong men who wouldn't scream or beg for our life, you died in pain but with your dignity intact. The whole world now knows the Meiteis who did this to you are worse than the Nazis. Yours is the story of heights to which human brutality can ascend and Meiteis as a community has lost their place in the commity of civilised society; for they never condemned the indescribable barbarity and cruelty their men did to you. You must be rolling in your grave, which contains a few bones we could collect from whatever was left of you, when you heard that Imphal valley is erupting in Chaos to protest against two Meiteis youths killed. As appalled as I am, you must be disgusted to know Meiteis are selectively crying for justice. When we die, Meiteis celebrate by having fish curry if we are to believe Tapta's lyrics and so, Condemnation is something you shouldn't expect nor is it needed. When they die or suffer a scratch, they implore the world to cry for them. I don't recognised this zombie-meiteis, they are different from the ones we called friends and neighbours!
The world knows how you died and all civilised men and women cry a river when they see your severed head, but I'd rather tell them how you lived. Your antics on the football field makes your team mates recall you in glowing terms. Remember how you made your father proud with everything you do and so, walk with pride in the world beyond.
I don't want to embarass you, but you are still the handsome guy with a quiet demeanor, the Mr. Good looks, to the young girls who secretly admired you.
A good son, a brave brother and a caring older brother to your sisters and a martyr to your people is how you are remembered. You were a promising young man whose budding life was cut short literally by a butcher's knife. You did not disappoint though it was too short a life you lived. Nevertheless, you have created an army of #IamDavid with your death and trust me when I say this: You did not die for nothing, you've achieved immortality and glory in death. I may live a much longer life but I wonder if I would be remembered and honoured in the "Wall of Remembrance" like you. You remain forever in the hearts and minds of your #Kuki_Zo nation. I salute you and I say to you: #IamDavid
Your memory will live on through us and our generation next. What you aspire to do, we will live up to your dreams.
By the way, the girl next door had a sad face and yet couldn't help but blush when she told me how she jumped and blow a kiss towards the football ground when you score that winning goal.
There's so much more, but this much should do for today
