 Gruesome killing in the street of Imphal


The following are the three victims in the video clip:

3. David Liansuanmuan s/o Jimmy Khupminthang

The ghastly attack took place on the 3rd of May, 2023, a day after communal clashes engulfed the state of Manipur. The three victims belong to a group of five persons belonging to the minority Kuki tribes who were working as contract labourers in Kawa Naorem Leikai in Imphal. Fearing for their lives, they ran for refuge in their contractor’s residence. Unfortunately, the irate mob belonging to the majoritarian Meitei community found out about their whereabouts. As the mob began to gather in front of the house, the contractor sensing danger, asked them to escape through the back door for their safety as he would not be able to protect them from the angry mob. Three of the five who went out of the back door were immediately chased and captured by the mob. The mob immediately attacked and tortured the helpless individuals with the intention of killing them. After the whole ordeal, they were left on the street for dead. The other two took their chances and hid in the contractor’s residence. Luckily, they were able to escape the sight of the mob as their contractor hid them under the bed. They could hear their other three friends’ painful scream for a long time. The lady of the house contacted the state police and in about an hour the police arrived to take the other two to safety. The police dropped them in Manipur Rifles (MR) Camp. Finally, on the 9th of May, along with other stranded civilians, the security forces escorted them safely to Churachandpur District. They have since reached their village Zoumunnuam safe and sound. The two individuals are:

1) Khupminthang f/o David

2) Lunlianmang s/o (L) Doulianhau


The three unfortunate victims were taken to RIMS Hospital, Imphal by some good Samaritans. Unfortunately, two of them died. The third victim fortunately survived and was kept in the ICU of the hospital. He regained consciousness and was able to speak during his stay in the hospital. According to the survivor, he also came across other injured victims belonging to the minority tribes in the hospital. Since they were still fearful for their lives, they asked for evacuation to a safer place to the Indian Army. Through the initiatives of some army officers, they were shifted to CRPF Camp in Laijing, Imphal. David finally reached Churachandpur on the 11th of May. He is currently recovering in Churachandpur District Hospital.
