Set the truth free

The attack of Akshay of Aaj Tak at DIPR Imphal is an assault on independent reporting.

Irrespective of who you are and your leanings towards any ideology and tribe, the govt. must act against those miscreants who are hell bent on silencing the media. It doesn't do either of the two communities and other communities still unaffected by the present turmoil any good. We have been denied our basic human rights to life, protection of private property and internet (data). Now, we are denied even the Truth! When unbiased, fearless reporting of the events and perspective are curtailed, you can't expect the people to form a balanced, independent opinion and correct course. Independent press and independent opinion must be assured the protection and freedom to propagate. Only the truth will set us free. The root cause of the problems and conflicts in the NE India: The difference of perceptions of what constitutes a threat to the survival and interests of the community in question and the resultant misunderstanding and sharp rhetoric for and against the position taken by the community and its members. This, however, may not be supported by authentic data or the truth. At the ecent interview of Leepun Chief with Karan Thapar, Mr Pramot Singh claimed to possess data of population of Manipur for the year 2021, the number of illegal immigrants and some intelligence reports which were the basis on which he and his supporters form a supposedly informed decisions on matters that are critical and sensitive to the continuation of Manipur as a civilised society. The argument and attitude that my statistics and data are gospel truths and non-negotiable could perhaps be the main reason behind such person drawing wrong conclusions and blindly believing in the validity of the inference drawn from it! For the uninitiated, the govt.  of India has not yet conducted CENSUS 2021 and official intelligence reports points to the presence of about 2900 illegal immigrants (needs to verified). Whatever data he claimed to have cannot be relied upon and he had embarassed himself in front of the national media by such absurd claims. His threat perception of the survival of Meitei as a group and his unfounded hatred against the Kukis seems to have evolved from his wrong reading of the unsubstantiated data in his possession.

The presence of independent media people and their unbiased reporting will help the commons to see the truth as it is and stand up for what is right. That, perhaps, is the only hope for Manipur. Free flow of verified data and reliable  news could help even Pramotji if he is open to reason and data from reliable and differing source!
