Lockdown Manipur - the only solution for the real solution
Lockdown Manipur - the only solution now.
If COVID 19 has taught us anything, it would be this: Complete Lockdown saves lives and stopped the spread of virus and it gave us time to respond in the manner it should be.
The virus of Mob violence, arson, burning homesteads in villages, gun-fights, hatred, killings and misinformation has spread its tentacles to every nook and corner of Manipur and it rages on unabated even after 43 days.
Why lockdown?
- the sham peace committee is a non-starter
- the HM visit and appeal for peace clearly does not have any affect on the ground, villages continues to burn and the number of internally displaced persons continues to grow
- the PM does not even care to say "a word" or tweet
- the CM continues to be as ineffective, for that matter his incompetency or "complicity" has been cited by citizens as the root cause of all these mayhem in the first place. Any person with an iota of self-respect and leadership quality would have resigned on moral grounds. I am not demanding his resignation based on his ethnicity but purely on the basis of his failure to secure the life and property of all the citizens of Manipur irrespective of whether your are a tribal or a Meitei
- the internet ban is a systematic control mechanism to shift and shape the narrative that suits the people in power, and hide the truth, not only from the outside world but from the "good silent majority" Meiteis in the valley. Distortion and misinformation of events and news using the state's power has hindered independent, reasoned opinion from taking shape, the masses are fed propaganda akin to the Nazi Regime.
- the state's security apparatus has lost the trust of the tribals while the valley brethrens also voiced their distrust for CAF, but the truth lies buried with malafide intent.
- the companies of CAF and columns of army personnel have not been able to create a buffer zone and stop the marauding mobs for more than a month now
- for every voice demanding Separate Administration for the tribals who see no other way out to address their concern for safety and right to life, there are two voices against it, calling for the preservation and safeguarding of 'Manipur's Integrity'. The imbroglio needs time and space to sort it out. The events of May 3 and onwards have forced even "die hard integrationist" to shift their stand amongst the tribals, this is an unfortunate turn of events, but now it appears inevitable. The hope for the tribals now is to live separately in peace than to live in one house that is poisoned with enmity and hatred. Better good neighbours and friends than be enemies compelled to live in the same house seems to the rationale driving the demand for Separate Administration.
- wish that things could return to pre 3rd May, but that's just wishful thinking now, a few of us trusted our Meitei brothers so much so, we built our retirement homes and left our aged parents in your care but you didn't not spare even the aged, women and children. I personally, can't understand what have we become. Imphal was my home too. But I take solace in the "few good men" standing up for humanity in the tsunami of hatred, hounding wolves and programmed unemployed youths. Wish we had worked on our dream of "Singapore -Imphal" but will never have the opportunity to do that with the chasm that seems to drive us to different poles.
Demand for PR for all our sakes has not been heard by the Centre for it would be politically inexpedient for a BJP govt. to dismiss its own. It would be naive to expect the government to muster the political will to do the right thing for "they don't really care about us"; politically we do not matter with a mere 2 MPs in the constellation of 543 MPs in the Lok Sabha. Need not count the Rajya Sabha MP, for obvious reasons.
In all the mayhem, we have crossed the lakshman rekha of humanity. A child of 7 years already wounded was burnt alive in an Ambulance along with his mother and Meitei aunt at Iroisemba, Imphal West. This is now the face of Manipur. It represents everything that has gone wrong with our society. For those who can't think beyond your ethnicity, know this, this child is of mixed parentage , mother is a Meitei and father is Kuki-Zo. The Meitei Chanu (mother) must have died with a broken heart by the betrayal of the people she once called her own, the pain of betrayal must be even worse than the fire that burnt her alive! Forget for a moment who you are and where you come from, this incident must evoke emotions of disgust and the urgency to restore our senses and humanity if we are to come out the inferno we created or was there a grand political design behind this? The spate of resignations of CM's advisors and 5 MLAs camping in Delhi voicing their discontent over the leadership of incumbent CM preceded May 3 mayhem, I don't know but an investigation on this must also be carried out. Time to wake up and see the real picture and the real players
We have reached a point where we can't even condole and console each other. The death of our Meitei brothers and sisters in a Church in a Kuki village called Aigejang in the midst of burning houses was avoidable and sad and is not something even the village defence volunteers would celebrate. If anyone celebrates the death of other human being, woe is that man, may even the devil shun him. But the distorted news emanating from Imphal based Media twisted the whole event and the truth is not revealed to the grieving families. Who instigated the persons from our valley to go on a rampage 12 Km away from sagolmang, the last major settlement of the Meitei community, needs to investigated. We should strive to stop the carnage. In an unverified report by the Hills Journal, the number of deaths is pegged at 107. How tragic, the families that are destroyed by the propaganda of some fool claiming to be a leader and egging on youths from various villages of the valley to sacrifice their lives to 'save mother MANIPUR's and filled our lives with hatred and enmity. They will not be the ones to die nor will they send their sons to the battlefield. Too many villages have been burnt and casualties from both sides are mounting each day. There seems to be no end to this but with a little political will and ingenuity, we can put and end to all.
Declare "ManVid 23" - a dangerous Manipur Virus 23 and Lockdown the entire state to give us time to respond to the most virulent attack on humanity that has gripped Manipur.
Mobs going to the hills must desist from such acts and must be on lockdown in their home and the same protocol for all villagers in the foothills.
The lockdown protocols could be the same as COVID 19, afterall we have been well trained during that crisis.
By the way, we need healers and Emergency response teams, not the incompetent, impotent-incumbent head leading the state of zombie besieged Manipur.
