Except for the die-hard few Meiteis who have been strongly conditioned to believe that they are descendents of Arjuna of Mahabharata fame and they are therefore Mayang Aryans, the overwhelming majority Meiteis do believe that they are Yelhoumee – the indigenous people of Manipur; that their forefathers were the original first settlers of this part of the world and they have maintained historical continuity in living in this land. *MERGER OF MANIPUR WITH THE INDIAN UNION 21st Sept. 1949:* The merger agreement of *Manipur* with the *Indian* *Union* was signed between the *Maharaja of Manipur Shri (L) Bodha Chandra Singh and Shri V.P.
